./configure installs libraries to /usr/local/lib. You need to add that location to your library path. This means editing your /etc/ld.so.conf (or one of the files it includes, see https://www.daemon-systems.org/man/ld.so.conf.5.html) and running ldconfig afterwards (https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man8/ld.so.8.html)

gdbmtool: symbol lookup error: gdbmtool: undefined symbol: gdbm_avail_traverse

I am just trying out to install gdbm by ./configure && make && make install. After this tried to run the gdbmtool this throws the above error. I am not sure where the error is. If anybody is aware please let me know.
