GNU paxutils is a collection of archive utilities. It will provide traditional cpio and tar programs as well as POSIX pax utilities integrating the functionality of the two.

The project is closely related to cpio and tar. The three projects will merge in some point in the future. In its current state paxutils serves as a common code base repository for all three projects. See paxutils page (or its mirror page) for the information about the project history and further developing plans.
