Yes, indeed. For now there's no easy solution for this. Do you have a working example of the workaround you proposed? I would like to include it in the documentation.

A database written in python has no possibility to know if the client has send "option mime" and the server sends mime headers. But this information would he helpful to send plain text only or html (or anything else).

In rfc2229, chapter 3.10.1. OPTION MIME, it is written that the server might respond in a different format when this option is enabled. Unfortunately I can not simply do this in a python database. The server asks for the header independent if this option is enabled or not.

Work around: Create a virtual database, which provides the database with and without mime. (One of those two database passes mime as a parameter to the python database.)

Of course the capability markup can be used instead. I do not know which clients support this.
